Kwara State Government on Tuesday commenced the disbursement of support funds for another 20, 751 beneficiaries including petty traders, widows, and other indigent in the state as part of the state’s government social protection program in response to the recent removal of fuel subsidy.

A statement by Dr Tejidini Abdulwasiu Olayinka, General Manager, of Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), said the intervention is the second in three months.

According to the GM, at least 13, 416 citizens received support funds from the government in the first phase in August.

The statement added that 1, 569 widows, 1, 611 petty traders, 12, 500 youths for Kwara public welfare, and 5, 071 earlier enumerated under the safety net have been approved for this phase.

Tejidini noted that the slew of palliatives rolled out by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq underscored his commitment to the welfare of the people and the development of the state.

"The Governor has approved the disbursement of fresh support to give a raise to the petty traders and provide relief to the indigent. We are determined to walk through this time with our people.

“He is deeply committed to ensuring help gets to the deserving, especially in the underserved communities in the state," the statement said.
