* Embattled ex-CBN Gov. Godwin Emefiele
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, CFR, from office with immediate effect.
The suspension of Emefiele was announced in a statement issued Friday night by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed on his behalf by Director of Information,Willie Bassey.
The statement was titled: "President Tinubu Suspends Emefiele From Office as Central Bank Governor"
The statement explained that the suspension was sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office as part of the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
The statement added: "Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms."
It would be recalled that Emefiele midwifed the new Naira notes exchange policy which put Nigerians in hardship lasting several months until the Supreme Court of Nigeria ordered that the old notes should remain a legal tender until end of December, this year.
