Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has called on Muslims in the state to live by the spirit of the Holy month of Ramadan.

AbdulRazaq made the call on Friday in Ilorin in his message to the Muslim community in the state on the holy month of Ramadan.

AbdulRazaq noted that the spirit of Ramadan include almsgiving and firm commitment to a better world and society.

The Governor congratulated the Muslim community worldwide, especially in Kwara State, on the dawn of the month of mercy -- Ramadan 1444 A.H.

He congratulated the leader of the faithful in Kwara State, Emir of Ilorin Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari on this spiritual development.

"I charge the faithful to live by the spirit of this holy month in which sins are forgiven, destinies are reshaped for good, and servants of God are given a brand new opportunity to get closer to the Creator.

"I charge the faithful to beseech Allah for peace, improved security, and sustainable development for our country, Nigeria, and for Kwara State in particular, as we begin a new chapter in our democratic journey.

"I wish all of us God's abiding mercies in this holy month and always. Ramadan Mubaarak to everyone," the governor said.

Governor AbdulRazaq also sympathised with residents of Ilorin and some communities in the state who were affected by the rainstorm and flooding of Thursday night.

In a statement on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor described the incidents as unfortunate.

“The Governor is sad about the havocs that the rainstorm wreaked on public and private properties, especially in Ilorin metropolis, Oke Ero, and some other areas.

“The Governor is aware of and commends the ongoing efforts of relevant government agencies to evacuate the many fallen signposts and clear the highways for free movement of traffic,£ he said.

AbdulRazaq said that the state government will collaborate with the Federal Government to continually tackle the question of flooding.

He therefore appealed to members of the public to avoid littering the drainages or blocking free flow of water.
